Room was furnished in a pleasant, modern style; it was reasonably-sized and the decor was tasteful and up-to-date. The bed was comfortable. En suite bathroom was fine, too, with a shower that worked well, with hot water.

Fire alarm went off at 10.45.p.m. on our second night; apparently one of the guests in another room had had a shower which triggered the smoke detector. We were told that this happens quite often. There was noise in the bar downstairs until after midnight. The fridge was locked, so we had to ask for milk for our tea, despite being informed in the literature that this would be supplied.

    Friendly Staff.

The Saturday night stay was very noisy. Band playing. Could not sleep!

  • Older travelers

Old times atmosphere linked to ocean liners. Very good food at restaurant , excellent dinner. Chose it to spend our last night in England prior to embarking on Queen Mary2.

Lack of lift , stairs heavy for some. However, staff very willing to help with luggage. Check out at 11am is somewhat too early , 12noon would be more reasonable.

  • Older travelers

Staff at the White Star were really pleasant and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them including helping to carry bags for you if you wanted. The food was exceptional, as much as possible was locally sourced and organic. Rooms were modern and very clean, bathroom we had was lovely and really nice toileteries. The White Star is located is a busy street with other restaurants and music is played there but at midnight the music is stopped and it is quiet then enabling a good nights sleep. A really good find.

  • Group of friends

I'm afraid to say we had two double rooms at this hotel and had another one booked for in August, however we are going to cancel it as we found the rooms to be very hot and noisy so we couldn't open the windows of a night. When we wanted to check out we not only had our room food and drinks to pay for they tried to charge us for the people that had stayed the night before as well. There bill was an extra £100 on top of ours. We had to wait three quarters of an hour for poached egg on toast and an omelette I really do not think that is good enough with no explanation no we won't stay there ever again and I certainly would not recommend it either.I might add this is the first time I have ever complained about a hotel.

  • Older travelers

The hotel has a history with White Star Cruises, the Titanic and her crew. Great walking distance to town sites.

The double bed was small and there was no air conditioning. It was unseasonably warm.

I was pleased with the initial standard of the room and the checking in process........nice bed linen and clean spacious bathroom........

The hairdryer did not work which is not what you want to fnd out a 6.15am with wet hair,,,,,,,,,,,it took a while to get a replacement ! then the checking out process was ridiculous...........the lady was very nice but had no idea of systems and passwords or how to use card machine !!!! This delayed my by 20 mins when trying to pay my bill and initially find someone ! The room had no where to hang trousers as the wardrobe was very short..........and the lighting over the mirror was very poor..........

  • Older travelers

The hotel was conveniently situated for the event we were attending. The room and bathroom were just a little on the small side but very comfortable.

Rooms was small, bed was very uncomfortable and bathrom in particular was dirty with mould on the blinds and what looked like blood splashed on them.

  • Older travelers

ideal for stay before or after cruise.good location for bars and food

storage poor and bed a bit on small side

Exceptionally noisy. Dirty linen. Had to go and find the receptionist in the bar. I cannot fathom how this place managed to get a 5 star rating. Perhaps I should have been warned by the "tavern" in the name.

  • Older travelers

It was extremely handy for accessing our cruise ship at Gate 4 and served our purpose very well.

Not quite the traditional hotel we expected but after initial surprise we found it to be comfortable and convenient for our purpose

  • Couple

Good location with easy access, tastefully decorated

Room was unbearably hot on the date of my visit, and music in the bar goes on until midnight, so if you need to get a good nights sleep choose a different hotel (or go to bed later).

  • Family with children

Comfortable rooms, helpful staff, convenient location for pre- or post-cruise.

The tavern can get quite loud, especially on Saturday nights.

  • Family with children

The comfortable rooms, which had excellent walk in double length showers, the quality products from The White Company and the excellent breakfast were the best things about this brasserie with rooms. Also, the staff were very helpful in offering information about the area and they were very accommodating in their approach to guests requests. The Manager appeared to be very supportive towards the staff and was particularly helpful to me and my family during our brief stay.

I felt that the music was too loud for a restaurant with rooms environment. So much so that it was difficult to have a conversation with my family comfortably during dinner. Also the music didn't go off until midnight - so for any guests wishing to go to bed before this time or with an early start - this could present a problem.I think that it would be more beneficial to guests staying in the rooms to turn the volume of the music down/provide greater noise insulation. Also the restaurant needs to be separated more from the 'pub clientele' - possibly via partitioning of the areas.
